Rainy Day Jackets

Since moving to London, I've had to give this a lot of thought... how do I look stylish when combatting the perpetual change in weather?

I don't really want to wear sportswear or look like a giant trash bag when the wind blows, nor do I want to wear items that will get damaged quite easily after a few days in the rain. I have my staple favorites for the rain - usually either my vintage Burberry trench (it is quite heavy to wear but should transition well for colder temperatures), my A.P.C. wool coat for more casual days, or my Uniqlo light trench for daily-I've-got-to-run-out-the-door-now wear.

There's always room for more of these jackets, so for the upcoming rainy days ahead here are my picks:

Barbour Ladies Featherweight Grace Jacket
I've been stopping by the Barbour boutiques and concessions in Harrods trying to find a perfect lightweight rain jacket. The belted silhouette gives a nice structure to this jacket, so it holds well even during windy days. The light nude colour looks great for spring / pre-autumn, and is a great netutral compliment to any outfit. Finally, I've seen a cut and color that I like, but now learned that this style is already out of stock ! Onto the next...

Burberry Wool Coat with Oversized Rain Shield
Oh this camel coat from Burberry Prorsum is such a beauty! I love the slim silhouette, leather details on the cuffs. Its such a structured, yet elegant coat - great contrast between the heaviness of the fabric against the feminine bow and standup collar. During colder days, I would wear this with my elbow-length plum gloves. Something to definitely think about as an investment piece, being higher up the price range (GBP 1795), I would have to balance my love for its design and the reality of possibly damaging it in the rain. No doubt you'll be one of the most stylish if you step out in the rain wearing this coat!

Uniqlo Short Trench Coat
For practical women like me, Uniqlo is my go to brand for basic essentials - I do have a coat similar to this already, and it's proven to be quite useful for several seasons. The cut is not as sophisticated my  Burberry trench coats, but it does provide a nice tailored shape. At GBP 59.90 it won't break the bank, and if it gets soiled or wet, I wouldn't care too much about it as it is relatively easy to clean.

I'm still shopping around for jackets, will update you the next time I see something that catches my eye!

Til then,
L
xx
